The Detroit Lions have been getting bit hard by the injury bug of late and seemingly can’t go one week without losing a vital player to injured reserve, but the team continues to show grit and fight through it all to the tune of a 12-2 record.

Injuries haven’t been the only thing plaguing the roster, as the team recently made a roster move regarding one recently arrested player.

The Lions announced a flurry of roster moves on X on Saturday, one of which involved the team waiving safety Brandon Joseph after his late-night arrest on Friday.

Waived S Brandon Joseph and WR Maurice Alexander.

Waived DL David Bada from Reserve/Injured with an Injury Settlement.

Activated S Ifeatu Melifonwu from Reserve/Injured (Remains listed as Questionable on Game Status Report).

The 23-year-old safety was arrested at 1:47 a.m. Saturday in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, and released six hours later.

The police said that Joseph was very compliant with the procedures after getting pulled over for driving too fast, and after being pulled over, officers noticed signs of alcohol consumption.

Joseph signed with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and appeared in 14 games this season with 13 total tackles and one pass deflection.

Joseph was on and off the practice squad as a rookie but was beginning to carve out a role for himself this year in his second season out of Notre Dame.

Given the recent injuries this defense has endured, his chances at an increased role were in his lap.

The team could be getting some safety help back, making this move a little easier to stomach.

Strong safety Ifeatu Melifonwu was also activated from injured reserve on Saturday and could return to action on Sunday when the Lions take on the Chicago Bears.

Overall, it’s an unfortunate situation for Joseph and the Lions.
